Evelyn Lee Slavin Calver age 93 was born May 30, 1919 and died the afternoon of August 24, 2012 at Savannah Square Health Center in Savannah, Georgia. She was born to Oscar and Katherine Slavin in Bartow, West Virginia and had two brothers Oscar and Theodore Slavin and a sister Nellie Slavin Payne.
She was married to Grant Leroy Eddy and a son Grant Lee was born to this union. After leaving West Virginia, she lived in Charlottesville, Virginia for 50 years and has resided in Savannah, Georgia for the last 8 years.

She was preceded in death by her husbands: Grant Leroy Eddy, Edward Lee Freeman, and James Lewis Calver and also her parents, her brothers, and her son.

She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Charlottesville, Masonic Lodge Queen Esther Chapter No.14 Order of the Eastern Star, and a charter member of Charlottesville Albemarle Watercolor Guild. Evelyn was a talented thread artist, and watercolor was her love. Her career years included working as a riveter at an airplane assembly plant in Baltimore during WWII. She later worked as a hair dresser and owner of a needlework shop. She was a seamstress which included designing, making clothes, crocheting, knitting, needlepoint, cross-stitch, upholstery, crewel, quilting, and decorator. She was always a card player, basket maker, artist and gardener, great cook, and loved her family and friends, the outdoors and mountains.

Evelyn is survived by her sister Nellie Slavin Payne of Franklin, West Virginia, daughter-in-law Nancy Towler Eddy Bruce of Richmond, Virginia, her stepsons James Stevan Calver Sandra of Savannah, Georgia and Lewis Edward Calver Colleen of Dallas, Texas. Also 8 grandchildren Katherine Eddy Brooks Aaron of Richmond, Virginia, Grant Lee Eddy Marci of Columbia, South Carolina, Jeffrey Alton Calver Christina, Patrick James Calver Michelle, Jennifer Calver White Lake, and Will Stevan Calver all of Savannah, Georgia, Drew Calver Erin of Austin, Texas, and Brandt Sarah of Dallas, Texas. And 13 great grandchildren Mary Caroline, Emilee Ann, Harrison Lee, and Henry Aaron Brooks, Robert Grant and Evelyn Ruth Eddy, Genevieve Sue and Sheldon Lake White, Madisson Lillian Blitch and Sydney Sue Calver, Eleanor Pearl and Emory Suzanne Calver, and Jack Brice Calver. She is also survived by many extended family members and friends.

Loving sitters that were present with her during the last years of her life were Patricia Green, Felicia Green, Jazmon Singleton, Sijill Green, Amandeus "Pinky" Byrd, Tanya Byrd Jones, and Tawanna Smith. Our thanks to Savannah Square and Savannah Hospice for their care and support.

A family service will be held at a later date in Arborville, West Virginia. She will be buried in the Slavin family plot.
